What's it all about?
The Shropshire Star, along with the awards sponsors, are searching for the outstanding and selfless individuals and groups across the region who make a difference to the people around them - and usually don’t expect any recognition for what they do.
They may be members of your family, friends, neighbours, colleagues, or someone who you have heard about and found their story inspirational.
But we can’t reward them - unless you tell us!
How to nominate
If you know someone who deserves to be considered, simply complete the nomination form. We are looking for people in the following categories: Ambassador of the Year, Carer Award, Community Champion, Environmental Champion, Fundraiser of the Year, Grandparent of the Year, Outstanding Bravery Award, Volunteer of the Year and the Young Star Award.
Don’t worry if you’re not sure which one they fit into, the judges will decide for you. A full explanation of category details can be found here.
The person, or people, you nominate should live or work in the Shropshire and mid Wales area, i.e. within the circulation area of the Shropshire Star. You can also nominate yourself.
You can make as many nominations as you like but please complete separate nomination forms for each individual or group.
ALL nominations must be received by midnight on Monday, May 7.
What happens next?
Next month, a panel of judges will decide who goes through to the next round in each of the nine categories for the chance of winning an award.
The chosen finalists, with a write-up about each of them, will appear in the Shropshire Star and online. You can then vote for the person in each category who you think deserves to win by cutting out special tokens published in the newspaper. The voting tokens will appear in the Shropshire Star from July 12 until August 4 and you can collect as many as you like. During certain times you will also be able to cast your vote online.
When will the winners be announced?
The chosen winners, each with a guest, will be invited to an awards event being held in the autumn.
The closing date for entries is midnight, Monday, May 7, 2018. Proposers must be aged 18 years or over. Nominees should be living or working in the Shropshire and mid Wales area, i.e. within the circulation area of the Shropshire Star. All nominees’ contact information must be on an official nomination form, either in print (and signed by the proposer) or online.
You should tell your nominee that you are putting their name forward. If the nominee is under the age of 16, then you must inform their parent/guardian, whose signature will be required for the print form or if nominating online, selecting the tick box on the electronic form to indicate you have done so. If making more than one nomination, please use separate forms.
All proposers and nominees must be prepared to take part in any relevant publicity including photographic and video coverage in print and online.
If selected as a finalist your nominee will be contacted by post, email or telephone and asked if they wish to take part in the campaign. All contact information will be held for the purpose of this campaign only.
Information (excluding contact details) on the finalists you have nominated will be used in-paper and online.
Employees and their immediate relatives of the MNA group of companies and campaign sponsors are not permitted to nominate in their own category. Each winner will receive a cheque for £50. There is no cash or prize alternative. If there is a voting tie in any category, a judging panel will choose the outright winner. The Editor’s decision is final.
